Byram Branches is a community-driven urban forestry initiative that plants native trees on public and private properties in Byram’s most heat- and flood-vulnerable area. The project is led by the Town of Greenwich Conservation Commission, with partnerships from Parks & Recreation, Greenwich Tree Conservancy, and Byram Neighborhood Association.
Byram Branches focuses on two equity-priority zones within Byram, identified using the DEEP Urban Forestry Screening Tool and the Tree Equity Scorecard. These areas have canopy coverage below 30%, high impervious surface area, and elevated vulnerability to heat, flooding, and other climate-related hazards.
For areas outside the two equity-priority zones but still within Byram, GTC and the Conservation Commission run a parallel program that makes all Byram properties eligible for a free tree.
